After-School Program

Support for Working Parents

The Blacksburg New School offers a state-licensed after-school program for the convenience of current families. The school also offers extracurricular activities, depending upon student demand and availability of instructor or parent sponsor. T.J. Stone, the Red Room teacher, is the After-School Program Director.

This state-licensed program runs from 3:45-5:45 each weekday. Staff members include BNS faculty members and students from Virginia Tech. Students may play outdoors or work on homework assignments during the after-school program. The after-school program is very popular with both children and their parents and includes a "Movie Day" on the first Friday of each month. Charges are incurred only for the time the child is actually present. No pre-registration is necessary.

The BNS After-School Program takes you back to memories of neighborhood play: kids of all ages working together to make up games, talking about books, knitting, running and laughing, and playing in sandpits.

Fees:

  • $12 per afternoon (3:45-5:45)
  • $6 per afternoon if child is picked up by 4:45
  • Maximum charge of $40 per week per child

Extracurricular Activities

The After-School Program often offers extracurricular activities such as music lessons, yoga, knitting groups, a running club, and board game clubs.
